Student Visit

Schedule a Student Visit

The best way to experience The Summit is to spend a day with us in person. Student visitors will accompany an assigned peer from their prospective grade level throughout his or her school day. Along with attending classes and other daily activities, your student will have the opportunity to meet students and faculty, and experience The Summit’s culture firsthand.

In order to schedule a student visit, please first fill out our Admissions Inquiry Form at the link below, which is the first step in our admissions process and will enable us to be in touch with you. On the form, please (1) provide your child’s information, (2) select “I would like to schedule a Student Visit” on the form and indicate three preferred dates, and (3) complete and submit the remainder of the form. You can also call our front office at 540-684-3989 or email us at admissions@thesummitva.org to schedule a time.

Tips for Students to Have a Successful Student Visit

  • We understand it can be daunting to be a visitor in a new school, but our community is known for being warm and welcoming. Both teachers and students are eager to help you with anything you need.
  • We encourage student visitors to participate in class discussions if they feel comfortable, as our students are encouraged to participate, ask questions, and engage in ideas in the classroom.
  • Try to think of a few questions ahead of time you can ask the student you are shadowing, such as: What do you like most about being a student at The Summit Academy? What has surprised you most about your experience here? What has been your favorite class so far? How would you describe the teachers? What makes this school different from others you’ve attended?

Planning Your Visit

Arrival: For new families, we recommend parking in the lower lot (west side entrance of the building, near the modular). Student visitors should arrive to the school office by 7:40am.

Dress Code: Visitors are encouraged to dress in a manner similar to our students. While an exact match to the uniform is not required, we recommend viewing our Uniforms page or website photos to gain a clear sense of our student attire. Middle School visitors are not required to wear a tie, but should dress, for example, in a button-down shirt or polo with khakis. Students visiting the Upper School should dress more formally, similar to attire chosen for a nice event.

What to Bring: Student visitors should bring a backpack, lunch, pen, and a notebook or paper.

Pick-Up: Pick-up is at 2:35pm. As with arrival, new families can park in the lower lot (west side entrance of the building, near the modular). We like to touch base with parents at the end of a student visit, so please enter through the main building and proceed to the school office to meet us and pick up your student.

Weather Delays & Cancellations: We generally follow Spotsylvania County Public Schools for weather delays and cancellations. If there is a two-hour delay, we will open at 9:30am. If school is cancelled, we will be in touch with you the day after the scheduled visit to put another date on the calendar. Of course, if we are not closed but you don’t feel it prudent to visit in light of weather conditions, please contact us and we can reschedule your visit.

Any questions? Please contact our front office at 540-684-3989 and we can answer any remaining questions you have.
