Financial Aid & Scholarships

The Summit Academy is committed to partnering with families, including in the areas of personal finance and financial stewardship. It accomplishes this goal primarily by keeping its exceptional education priced below regional averages. The cost to educate a Summit student exceeds tuition, and generous donors help to support the short- and long-term sustainability of The Summit.

Expanded Financial Partnership

Next, the school is proud to offer generous multi-student discounts at $2,000 for each successive high-school student enrolled per family and $1,000 for each successive middle-school student enrolled per family. These discounts are automatically applied. Merit-based awards are available, competitive, and outlined at the bottom of this page.

Need-Based Financial Aid

Finally, school leadership recognizes that not everyone who is aligned with The Summit’s mission and vision of a graduate has the ability to fully pay for a Summit education. We never want financial means to be a limitation to a student’s ability to access this high-quality education. To this end, there are generous need-based awards available only for those families with a truly limited ability to pay.

To ensure privacy, accuracy, and fairness in the financial aid application process, all applications are managed by FACTS, an independent company that provides grant and aid assessment services for schools. Although FACTS conducts initial financial need analysis, all award decisions are made by Summit’s Financial Aid Committee.

You may utilize the secure FACTS portal below to begin your application for need-based financial aid. You must submit your complete application by February 15, and you will receive a decision by March 1.

Scholarships

Two (2) $750 merit awards for Upper School students
Two (2) $500 merit awards for Middle School students

Returning and new students are eligible. Interested students should submit a handwritten or printed response to one of the following questions by April 1, 2026:

  1. What is the value of a Summit education? You can think in terms of academics, moral formation, virtue, economics, and the like.
  2. How has The Summit’s “no phone” policy affected your life at school and at home?
  3. What is one important cultural or political issue that you care about, and how has The Summit helped you understand that issue better?

Responses should be submitted to the front office. The Scholarship Committee will review each essay carefully for strength of thesis, strength of analysis and support, clarity, grammar, and style. You will receive a decision by late April 2026.

The John Paul Asbell Scholarships

In remembrance of John Paul Asbell, a young boy who passed away much too soon, The Summit Academy offers the following endowed, merit-based scholarships for students who exemplify The Summit’s mission:

$2,500 Scholarship awarded to one incoming student
$2,500 Scholarship awarded to one returning student

Award winners demonstrate a record of achievement, merit, and personal character as well as a developing sense of academic inquiry. They must demonstrate a keen mind, a charitable heart, an eagerness to learn, a humble attitude, and a desire for wisdom. In order to apply for the scholarship, applicants must have the following completed by April 1, 2026:

1. Write an essay based on one of the following prompts and submit a handwritten or printed response to the front office:

New Students (choose one):

  • What does it mean to be “free”?
  • Who is the happiest person you know and why?

Returning Students (choose one):

  • George Washington Carver famously wrote that “education is the key that unlocks the golden door of freedom.” What is a good education and how does it accomplish this purpose?
  • Catholic philosopher Simon Weil wrote that education consists of developing the mind by increasing our powers of attention. Given this reflection, what is the ultimate reason that the Catholic Church has an interest in education?

2. Schedule and complete a scholarship interview with the Headmaster and/or Executive Director. Interviews may be scheduled after essays have been submitted. To schedule an interview, please email cedwards@thesummitva.org, and include “John Paul Asbell Scholarship Interview” in the subject.

You will receive a decision by late April 2026.
